Any.do is built on a simple promise: open the app, jot down what you need to do, and move on. No method to learn, no cluttered screen. If you're looking for an Any.do alternative, ask yourself what's missing today: a better list, or a place to keep everything that surrounds your tasks?
What Any.do does really well
My Day, the morning planner. Every morning, My Day starts from an empty view and has you pick what you'll tackle today. A pinned task stays in My Day from one day to the next until you complete it. According to Any.do support, My Day is included in the free plan; the AI suggestions that put forward priority tasks are a Premium feature.
WhatsApp as an inbox. With Any.do's WhatsApp bot, you add a task by sending a message, get your reminders in the conversation, and a forwarded message becomes a task. If you live in WhatsApp, that's frictionless capture. One caveat: it's a Premium feature, and tasks created in the app don't send a WhatsApp reminder until you turn it on yourself.
A generous free version. The free plan has no time limit and no cap on the number of tasks and lists, according to the getting started guide. Grocery lists, widgets and calendar integration are included.
Premium adds advanced recurring reminders, location-based reminders, a Focus mode with a Pomodoro timer and unlimited color tags. For a well-kept personal list, that's already a lot.
Where Any.do hits its limits
The limits come mostly from its scope.
Any.do stays centered on tasks and lists. Once your work relies on meeting minutes, PDFs sent by a client or a project broken down into milestones, those pieces live in other tools. Connecting them in your head is up to you.
Working with others goes through other plans. Any.do support specifies that Premium is meant for a single person: sharing and collaboration fall under the Family and Workspace plans. Before committing, check which plan actually matches how you'll use it.
Flots: your tasks with all their context
Flots starts from the other end. Tasks stay quick to create, with sub-tasks, recurrence and categories, but they live alongside everything else:
- a native calendar, where you set an appointment in one click, synced with Google Calendar;
- markdown notes, exportable to PDF or Word, that you can pull tasks out of;
- documents (PDFs, images…) sorted into folders and viewable without downloading them;
- projects that bring tasks, notes and milestones together, shareable with your collaborators.
The parallel with My Day plays out over the day. Flots' Planning view shows your scheduled tasks and undated ones side by side, next to your appointments. You drag a task into an open slot and see right away whether the day holds up. My Day helps you choose what to do; Planning also shows you when.
Data is hosted in Europe and never resold to third parties, a criterion worth checking for professional use.

Any.do or Flots: how to choose
Stick with Any.do if your organization fits in personal lists, you like starting from a blank page every morning and WhatsApp is your go-to for writing everything down. It's a very good tool for that.
Switch to Flots if you're a freelancer, manage client projects or work in a small team, and your tasks depend on notes, documents and appointments. You get a single place where everything comes together.
If you're still torn between several to-do list apps, our comparison of Microsoft To Do and its alternatives tackles the same question from another angle: at what point a list is no longer enough.
The simplest way is still to compare them hands-on. Flots' 2-month free trial, with no credit card, gives you time to run both tools over real work weeks before deciding.
Your day, with its tasks, notes and appointments.
